On April 9, Wulanhaote Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. (a subsidiary of Jingye Group in Xing’an League, Inner Mongolia) successfully rolled B500B reinforcing steel compliant with the British Standard (BS). The first batch of this order will be shipped to Senegal—the first West African country to sign a Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) cooperation agreement with China—via BRI logistics channels, where it will be deployed in key local infrastructure projects.
In response to this inaugural African market order, Wugang rapidly activated an integrated production–sales–R&D coordination mechanism. Tailoring its approach to the customer’s specific requirements, the company iteratively refined its production processes and trial production scheduling plans, developing a customized technical solution fully aligned with the client’s production line capabilities. During manufacturing, Wugang leveraged the advanced domestic technological advantages of its dual-high-speed bar mill line—specifically, precise low-temperature finishing rolling, staged water-cooling controlled rolling and controlled cooling, as well as flexible, modular rolling technology. It also applied i-PEDM—a domestically developed intelligent process control system—to resolve inaccuracies in cut-length measurement caused by speed fluctuations. Furthermore, by integrating a high-speed bar braking control model and an adaptive bar-feeding control model, Wugang overcame longstanding challenges related to dimensional accuracy, low operational efficiency, and insufficient production flexibility—thereby significantly reducing alloy consumption and enabling green, low-carbon production of B500B British Standard steel. Quality inspection results confirm full compliance of the product with both the BS B500B standard and Senegal’s technical specifications.
This successful development and market entry of B500B British Standard steel marks a significant milestone for Wugang. It not only strengthens Senegal’s confidence in and recognition of Chinese-made products but also paves the way for broader penetration of high-quality Chinese steel products into the African market.
